Under the NZ–UK FTA, the previous £16 duty per £100 of honey imports has been eliminated, with 99.5% of NZ goods entering the UK duty-free immediately on entry into force.[1]
The trade response has been measurable: NZ honey exports rose 50% from NZ$38 million to NZ$57 million, with a 17% rise in the year to June 2025.[1] The UK is now one of New Zealand's most active premium honey markets, and certified Mānuka has clean economics across retail, foodservice, and gifting tiers.

Yes. The NZ–UK Free Trade Agreement entered into force on 31 May 2023. Tariffs on New Zealand honey imports to the UK have been eliminated under the agreement, with 99.5% of NZ goods now duty-free into the UK.
Yes. For honey to be classified and exported from New Zealand as Mānuka, it must pass MPI's 5-attribute test. We provide the MPI export certificate with every shipment. Without it, the product cannot be sold as Mānuka in any regulated market — including the UK.
The UK market has higher UMF awareness than most international markets — a result of long-running UMFHA marketing presence. UMF licensee status carries weight in premium UK retail. We provide UMF compound results (Leptosperin, DHA, HMF, MGO) for any partner targeting UMF-led retail. MGO labelling also works for broader retail and online wellness.
First commercial order: 6–8 weeks from PO to dispatch. Sea freight transit NZ → UK: 5–6 weeks to UK ports. Total elapsed time from PO to landed: approximately 11–14 weeks. Repeat orders are faster — typically 4–6 weeks from PO to dispatch.
UK FSA's National Food Crime Unit has actively tested Mānuka honey samples in retail — historic findings include adulteration in a third of samples tested. UK Trading Standards officers are familiar with the issue. MPI certification + independent batch lab certificates is what defends a UK retailer or distributor against compliance challenges.
